Associate Art Director – Photo District News (PDN)

REPORTS TO: PDN Creative Director
LOCATION: New York City, NY

Photo District News (PDN), the monthly New York City based photography industry magazine is currently seeking an experienced, motivated, and talented Associate Art Director to join the magazine’s editorial and Custom Media team. Our desire is for this individual to: be a self-starter, creative multi-tasker (with good design and typographic skills), have an eye for detail and be able to work efficiently while juggling multiple projects and production tasks. This individual will be comfortable working between departments within a fast-paced environment, while meeting firm deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES: (Listed in order of importance. This list is not all inclusive; additional duties will be performed as required.)
•Report to the Creative Director to design editorial pages for PDN’s front and back of book sections, and occasional features.
•Report to PDN’s Custom Media, Circulation departments to design a variety of projects that include House-Ads, Contest Pages, Advertorials, printed guides and web ads.
•Page Production: Upload of PDFs to press; process image files for online and other projects in support of the editorial department; QC and page trafficking of projects.

•Good design, typographical sensibilities and problem-solving abilities.
•Able to work proactively with the Creative Director, editorial, photo editor and Custom Media Staff, as well as be a self-starter in getting projects off the ground and taking initial concepts forward to a highly polished product on deadline.
•Must be organized with a strong attention to detail, and be able to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
•Able to take direction and work well both independently and collaboratively, with strong communication skills.
•Thorough knowledge of Adobe InDesign, and working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
•Working knowledge of HTML and experience working with CMS (such as OpenText), a plus.

•Minimum 1–3 years publication design experience preferable.
•Graphic Design degree preferred.
